washing dishes and I was hearing a noise went to see where it was coming from, I thought it was from the fridge then I walked over to the microwave and took out what I was reheating. I said let me see if it was this... so I punched in one minute hit the start buttong and kaboom it blew up into fire. Thank God I was standing right there. Whirlpool had the nerve to only give me partical payment since I used it. I told them you are luck that the house did not go up in flames or you would be paying alot more to more. I see they are still selling this model....

This microwave came with our newly built home. The keypad stopped working we called the warranty people who deemed it unfixable and ordered us a new one, couple years in and here we are again with keypad that has quit. I have emailed Whirlpool who sent the general we™€™ve received your email and will get back to you but never did. Today was the third call Ive put in? talked to one representative who transferred me to Direct Care waited an hour on hold they never picked up. So disappointed in whirlpool

Had repair/replacement insurance with D&G called them for a repair to be told the plan doesn™€™t cover countertop microwaves but built in ones. So now we got to be out of money to replace. Magnetron failed after nine months

The microwave was part of a Whirlpool appliance package that came with our newly constructed home. The magnetron began arcing and sparking heavily after nine months under normal use. Aside from that, the sensor cooking feature overheats food and the control panel shows every little fingerprint. We had issues with the fridge and dishwasher as well that I won't get into here. I do not recommend Whirlpool products.

This microwave came preinstalled with our house three years ago. Some buttons like the power level never worked. Now some number buttons don™€™t work, and the final straw is the ™€œStart™€ button not working. It™€™s now completely useless. Now we have to replace it, hopefully with a microwave that fits the same trim!

I bought this product a little over a year ago to replace the same exact model that fit into our cabinet. The first microwave lasted about 7 years. The zero on the replacement has stopped working after about 1 year. There is only two people using the microwave, it should not have started failing so soon.

Very Disappointing - Do Not Purchase!

This microwave came pre-installed in our newly-built house. Shortly after the warranty expired, it stopped working - several number buttons on the control panel stopped working, as did the start button. The clock never worked well too. When our repair guy called to order a replacement part (circuit board), he was told that he would be unable to do so, and would have to purchase a new replacement instead. Who heard of having to purchase a replacement microwave after owning a new one for less than 14 months? Avoid at all costs!

Junk - failed after 2+ years

Bought this because it was the right size to fit in a under cabinet built in enclosure after the failure of a Sharp microwave that had lasted 18 years. Unfortunately, this Whirlpool one lasted a little more than two years before the control panel stopped working properly. It is frozen in a medium power setting with two icons (defrost and medium plate setting) showing and can't be changed. Unplugging doesn't change it so it is generally useless now with the unchangeable lower power setting.

I™€™ve had this for a few years and like other reviews have said, the start button stopped working. The one button that is needed to operate the microwave. So it is now garbage. I contacted Whirlpool customer service and was told they recommended I replace it. Thank you for the great advice. Of course it has to be replaced if I want a working microwave. If you want my advise, look elsewhere. Different brand especially. Not the same Whirlpool of years ago.

Functionality starts to go bad with age

I have had an older version of this microwave. Clock setting failed early. Other functions worked ok for several years. Then, one day, tried to open the door but could not because when pressing the button to open, the microwave came on. Very dangerous. I liked the product for 8 years, but it failed after that. It will probably work again after maintenance by a technician but I™€™ll just replace it.

They don't make replacement parts for this model, so it's essentially a disposable appliance. Very disappointing, we have purchased Whirlpool appliances exclusively over the years...not the same company anymore.

I was surprised to find very similar user experiences here as I thought I just had a bad microwave and have never had to read reviews on microwaves. This microwave was also brand new in my house 2 years ago and just recently the start button stopped working along with the fact that the light, turntable, and fan will stay on as soon as you close the door but nothing heats. The light will not turn off and I had to unplug it. The door opening mechanism inside also broke, which I can fix on my own but it™€™s useless if the control panel does not work. My appliance dealer said they don™€™t make parts for this anymore and I didn™€™t think the service call was worth it if there aren™€™t parts, so I ordered a new one. Looked it up to see if anyone had similar experiences and here I am. I™€™m really, really disappointed and don™€™t feel good this product, even having a brand new one again.

Do Not Buy This Piece Of Junk

We remodeled our kitchen and bought all new Whirlpool appliances in September 2021. (refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave). We did not unbox the microwave and start using it until March 2022 (old one was still working fine and we had not finished the cabinet top) So we have not even gotten 1 year of service from this microwave, but the 1 year warranty has expired of course. The microwave failed to operated properly today. It will not turn off unless we open the door or unplug it. We were warming a plate of food and the timer counted down to zero, but it just kept running. We have pushed every button and it will not stop running. The only button that works is to add time. We can increase the shown cooking time, but as the microwave keeps running, the cooking time shown does not count down....it just remains at its last setting. None of the buttons work. We have unplugged and plugged it many times with no luck. We had been getting a "DOOR" alarm signal about 10% of the time since it was new, and would have to open and then close the door again to make it work. Other than that everything else worked. Guess that was a warning sign. We called the store we purchase it from (who has an excellent service/repair department) and was told they could not get parts for Whirlpool microwaves (Whirlpool doesn't even carry spare parts for their microwaves) and that this is considered a "throw away" item. What a shame the USA has regressed to this level of product and service (made in China of course) Look at the reviews on the Whirlpool site before buying....this microwave has a 2.6 star overall rating, with 54% 1 star ratings. That should tell you all you need to know. Wish we would have done that. We previously had a 2002 model Sharp that still works fine (just didn't match our new appliances) We just bought a new Sharp (in black stainless) for 40% of the price of the Whirlpool and love it. Our strategy from now on (since the microwave industry has decided to build only throw-away equipment) is to buy cheap (buy a service plan if you chose) toss it when it fails, and buy another cheap one.

Found work around by just pushing the start button until today and now the start button refuses to work and display is messed up. Like so many others in the reviews, after 2-3 year my keypad stopped working. I can't press start, clock, a few of the preset buttons, or a couple of the number. I don't know why this microwave has not been recalled to fixed this issue so many people have wrote to complain about. I would like to have this microwave since it matches everything in my kitchen, and I know it fits in the microwaves cut out in my counter, but I do not want to waste my money for it to stop working again. Had it for 4 years. Digital display has always had a random LED segment go in and out but never replaced it for that reason. Finally, the start button quit working, so I called customer service who offered me 40% off a new one. That's what led me here only to find a 2.7 average review of this product and multiple complaints of my exact issue. They know full well this product is junk and they sell it anyway. That's what the Whirlpool brand means to me, now. STAY AWAY!

Have had my microwave for about 3 years. The start button magically stopped working around 6 months ago. It would work sometimes and now just completely does not work. The numbers are also not completely lit. It™€™s inoperable and it seems I™€™m going to have to replace the entire thing but really don™€™t want to buy the same exact thing for this to just happen again. All of my other appliances are whirlpool (fridge, dishwasher, stove, oven, hood, washer & dryer) so I™€™d like to stick with the same family but 3 years is not long enough in my opinion and will definitely reconsider purchasing whirpool again. So far all my other appliances are working but it™€™s only been three years so fingers crossed they don™€™t all conk out as well.

Touchpad failure,

Purchased this microwave, along with a dishwasher and oven in January 2019, just now three years ago. Replacing 30 year led Jenn Air appliances. 30 year old appliances!! Only the oven had failed but figured it was time. Now, after just 3 short years, the touchpad has failed on the microwave!! 36 months and inoperable!!! Prior one was still working after 30 years! Unbelievable! And will likely cost more to get a repair estimate, repair, than to replace. Never buying Whirlpool again!!

We had the entire Whirlpool Kitchen Suite installed in our home when we purchased and this microwave was one of the appliances installed, and we are very disappointed with this product. The microwave just stopped working after a short time, the start button just will not work, and it seems like it is the only button that does not work. So we call whirlpool and we were told these microwaves are not fixed and just replaced.......huh...so now we have to come out of pocket to purchase another microwave.
